Get ready, foodies! Oceania Cruises is about to redefine luxury cruising with two groundbreaking culinary concepts aboard the upcoming Oceania Sonata, launching in August 2027. This isn't just about adding new restaurants; it's about elevating the entire dining experience to a whole new level.
First up, prepare to be amazed by La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France, the most exclusive fine-dining restaurant at sea. But here's where it gets controversial... This isn't just any restaurant; it's the only one at sea to be officially endorsed by the prestigious Maîtres Cuisiniers de France (MCF), a global institution celebrating the best of French culinary arts. This partnership marks a significant milestone, deepening the bond between Oceania Cruises and this esteemed association. And this is the part most people miss... Oceania Cruises boasts two Executive Culinary Directors, Chefs Alexis Quaretti and Eric Barale, both inducted into the MCF, making them the only cruise line with two MCF members overseeing its culinary program. La Table, with seating for just 18 guests, promises an intimate and elegant experience, featuring rotating menus crafted by Chefs Quaretti and Barale, alongside guest appearances from Master Chefs of France from around the world. Adding to the allure, the restaurant will also host Oceania Cruises' famed Dom Pérignon Experience, a six-course tasting menu paired with three vintage Champagnes.
Next, get ready to explore the exciting world of Nikkei cuisine at Nikkei Kitchen. This evening venue will offer a vibrant fusion of Peruvian flavors and refined Japanese techniques. Born from the blending of Peruvian ingredients and Japanese techniques, Nikkei cuisine showcases fresh seafood, bright citrus, soy-based sauces, and spicy peppers. Chef Gustavo Sugay, with over 20 years of experience in this dynamic cuisine, is collaborating with Chefs Quaretti and Barale to develop the menu. This exciting collaboration builds on the success of 12 innovative Nikkei dishes already introduced in Red Ginger, Oceania Cruises' signature pan-Asian restaurant, which has received rave reviews. The interior of Nikkei Kitchen will be bright and airy, with a modern, open kitchen, mirroring the fresh and light dishes served each evening.
As Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, puts it, "La Table and Nikkei Kitchen are emblematic of what sets Oceania Cruises apart, thanks to our ability to pair world-class culinary talent with the creative freedom that results in unforgettable dining experiences." Chef Quaretti adds, "These restaurants are not just simply new onboard venues; they are the embodiment of Chef Barale's and my shared dedication to our culinary craft."
Important details: La Table will be a reservations-only venue, with a surcharge for the wine experience. Nikkei Kitchen will be a capacity-controlled experience, part of the line's always-included specialty dining options, available on a first-come basis with no reservations required.
But what do you think? Is this level of culinary innovation a game-changer for cruise dining? Will the exclusivity of La Table appeal to you, or are you more excited about the accessible flavors of Nikkei Kitchen? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
In addition to these new concepts, Oceania Sonata will feature ten other exceptional culinary experiences, including the Grand Dining Room and specialty restaurants like Jacques, Red Ginger, Polo Grill, and Toscana.
Oceania Sonata, the ninth ship in the Oceania Cruises fleet, is the first of four 1,390-guest ships in the new Sonata Class. Set to debut in August 2027, the ship will be the most spacious and amenity-rich to date, with 30% of accommodations as suites.
