Yet, the industry faces a stark reality: global crude steel production hovers around 1.9 billion tonnes annually, contributing roughly 7% of global energy-related carbon emissions. The results? Within seven months, the pilot prevented 2,000 hours of downtime and 53 full process interruptions globally, slashing waste and lost production. Here’s the kicker: by avoiding unplanned stoppages, BlueScope also cuts scrap, saving energy and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
Senseye’s AI-driven platform analyzes data like vibration and pressure to detect early signs of equipment failure. Engineers set thresholds, and the system prioritizes risks, ensuring teams focus on the most critical assets. Colin Robertson, BlueScope’s Digital Transformation Manager, emphasizes usability: “We wanted a tool that simplifies, not complicates, workflows.” This approach has made Senseye a cornerstone of BlueScope’s decarbonization journey, proving that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand.
